« LaiToile - The business place for Québec Dairy Producers » is a
commercial showcase of the different products and
services offered to dairy producers and people related to breeding and dairy
production.
LaiToile was initiated by four partners in the field of
dairy production who have a long background of common actions in Québec aimed
at making breeding and dairy production progress.
- the Fédération des producteurs de lait du Québec (FPLQ),
an organisation that represents some 9000 dairy farms
in Québec and handles their milk marketing.
- the Conseil québécois des races laitières (CQRL) that groups together the
five Québec breed associations : Ayrshire, Canadienne, Holstein, Jersey and
Brown Swiss. The CQRL is a platform where the associations study the policies
and strategies concerning the production, breeding and marketing of purebred
dairy bovines. Promotion of genetic improvement, development of partnerships
with representatives of the dairy sector and members representation are their core
activities.
- Valacta, which offers producers some analysis services, management tools as well as consulting services allowing them to increase the productivity and profitability of their operations. Centre of expertise in dairy production, VALACTA is a key partner in the evolution and the success of the dairy industry in Canada and on the international level.
- the Centre d'insémination artificielle du Québec (CIAQ),
an organisation that offers the semen of
internationally renowned dairy sires. CIAQ manages a young sire testing program
and offers sire recommendation programs in order to optimise the genetic
progress and profitability of herds.
LaiToile - The business place for Québec Dairy Producers,
a showcase launched in winter 2002, has a sound
foundation since the first site called « LaiToile - La communauté laitière virtuelle » was first developed by the InfoSys group of McGill University, in collaboration with VALACTA (formerly the PATLQ) and CIAQ, starting in 1996. Its financing came from the Fonds de l'autoroute de l'information du gouvernement du Québec. The InfoSys group's study projects refer to the application of new information technologies and dairy production communications.
